China Dolls

China dolls are made from glazed bisque, which is why they have such a shiny appearance. Often the doll’s head and the lower part of its limbs are made from this bisque. The rest of the doll will generally be made of cloth or leather.

The vast majority of China dolls were made in Germany between the 1830s and 1930s. There were some made elsewhere, but these are very rare now. The doll maker Emma Clear made some China dolls in the 20th century as well.

Most China dolls are very expensive now, ranging from a couple hundred dollars to easily a few thousand. The larger and rarer the doll is, the more it will cost. But if you have the funds to buy them, there are many wonderful dolls you can get online and through doll-stores.
